Training Schedule Tuesday!

I’m cheesy and I like alliteration posts so I decided to start one of my own (I’m sure someone else has probably already done this one before, but it’s new to me so I’m claiming it as my own!!): Training Schedule Tuesday! If you want to join in, feel free 🙂 Make sure to let me know in the comments if you make a post.

Here is my training schedule for the week:

Tuesday: 3 mile run

Wednesday: 40 minute run with a negative split goal

Thursday: 2.5 mile run

Friday: Rest or Crosstrain (maybe p90x arms??)

Saturday: 5 MILE RUN!!! — a new milestone, if I complete it!

Sunday: Rest

Monday: 1.5 mile run (less mileage next week because I have a 5k on Saturday, May 5th!)

Have you ever done p90x?

– I have, but only for like 5 days before I quit! Now, I just like to do random workouts to supplement my running 🙂

Tell me your training schedule for the week! And also, what are you currently training for?

I should spend more time on my hair

I headed to the gym tonight with the intention of completing my surge run on the treadmill. I even tried to use the treadmill with the on demand episodes of Friends (awesome!) in order to keep my attention off of how much I hate surge runs so that the time would go by faster. Instead, ten minutes later, and only a mile into my run, I quit. I felt dehydrated and tired…so I headed over to the stationary bike and rode for 45 minutes (11.3 miles). I left dripping in sweat — a sign of a successful trip to the gym! — and not the least bit disappointed in my failed run. I’ll just try that run again tomorrow 🙂

So, I like making lists. I also enjoy making these lists on post-it notes and then losing them 🙂 So this week, I decided to make my post it note on my blog. This way, I know I won’t lose it and also I’m sure everyone out there is just sooo interested in what I have to do this week.

1. Brush my hair

This might sound silly, but I haven’t brushed my hair in over 2 weeks… I have naturally wavy hair and if I brush it, it gets all frizzy. The downside to this, is that if I don’t brush it, it gets matted from my crazy sleeping aka tossing and turning all night and forms a gigantic tangled knot. I’m estimating that brushing my hair tonight/tomorrow is going to take almost an hour. Not joking.

2. Dye my hair

Last winter/early spring I dyed my hair brown to fulfill a life long dream of being a brunette. It wasn’t that bad looking on me, but I just felt like my natural blonde hair looked better. You be the judge:

Ever since dying it back to blonde, I’ve been stuck in a vicious cycle of dying my hair different shades of blonde trying to find one that finally lets my natural hair grow back in without looking like I have 3 inches of dark roots! So yeah, I need to dye my hair because it’s been way too long since the last time I did that.

Wow, I really sound like I love to keep up with my appearance, huh!

3. Take my clothes to Plato’s and then take whatever they don’t buy to Goodwill.

I finally went through my clothes last week and picked out all the shirts/pants/t-shirts that I hate and haven’t worn in over a year. It was a long overdue chore that I finally tackled. Now, the clothes are in neatly folded piles but they’re taking up space! Plus, the Plato’s close could bring in some much needed money for this broke college student, which would be nice 🙂

4. Go through my millions of drawers and THROW THINGS AWAY.

I’m a pack rat. This trait, combined with being very unorganized, has resulted in a extremely cluttered and messy room. I’m reaching my breaking point. I need to just throw things away!! My goal is to have half as many things when I move out of this apartment, as I did when I moved in.

5. Study for my midterm on Thursday.

I don’t think I really need to explain this one…

What’s on your to do list this week?

Do you have a hard time parting with your clothes? Even clothes you haven’t worn in years and/or don’t even really like?

Have you ever taken your stuff to Plato’s closet? How much did you get?

Sometimes they barely pay me anything for my clothes, but a couple of times I came away with over $100…no idea why they love my stuff sometimes and hate it other times. Hopefully they LOVE it this week 🙂

I feel like a REAL runner!

This weekend was amazing, mostly just because I finally got to relax and not think about school for 48 hours. Last week I had so many projects, papers, quizzes, and midterms that it was tough to get a moment to myself! But this week is a lot less busy so I enjoyed most of my weekend on the couch.

I went for my “long” run of 4 miles on Saturday (I can hear seasoned runners giggling now…4 miles is long??) and it went well. It was really cold, rainy, and windy but I decided to skip the treadmill and run outside anyway. Honestly, I feel like I wasn’t a real runner until Saturday because normally I avoid less than perfect weather at all costs and run inside. But on Saturday I faced it head on! I think I’ve earned my running stripes for real now 🙂 I headed down towards campus because I wanted to run on the Oval (our version of a quad). Only problem was, there was a bajillion people on High St. and all around campus walking to the spring football game. I spent about a half mile dodging people on the sidewalks of campus before deciding to head back to the off campus housing area of Columbus. I got a side stitch a couple of times, which I don’t really ever get these days, but I think this was due to a lack of hydration rather than poor breathing.

I only had about 2 tenths of a mile left before I could finally stop running when a guy started trying to flag me down…I had my head phones in so I tried to ignore him but he practically ran me down with his car to get me to stop. His question: How do you get to the football stadium?

This question is soooo ridiculous because it’s Ohio State. Our campus basically revolves around football season and to not be able to find our gigantic stadium is just incomprehensible. Gasping for air, I tried to point him in the right direction but I could barely think, nonetheless act as a TomTom. I doubt I helped the guy out at all, but it’s his fault for stopping a very tired runner when she’s almost finished with her run!

My goal pace was 11:00 and I ended up beating that and running the 4 miles in about 42:30, at a 10:38 pace! I’m beyond thrilled with that time and I’m proud of myself. Feels like another milestone has been met 🙂 This weekend’s long run is 5 miles. I think I’ll head down to the river trail to make the run a little more enjoyable, and I hope this time it’s not raining!

After my run I got ready and headed to Red Robin with the boyfriend for my guilt free meal of the week. I had the BEST burger I’ve ever had in my entire life. If you go to RR anytime in the near future, check out the bleu ribbon burger! Onion straws, chipotle mayo, and bleu cheese? TO DIE FOR. My mouth is practically watering just thinking about it!

Image

Obviously I took that picture of the burger myself and I didn’t just steal it from the RR website because I forgot to take a picture of my sandwich when I was at the restaurant…

What’s your favorite restaurant burger/sandwich?

What’s the longest distance you’ve ever run without walking? How long did it take you?

Homemade Salad Bars

I stayed up really late last night to study for my kinesiology exam this morning…it paid off because I got above the class average, which always makes me feel good! However, I didn’t have time/energy to make breakfast this morning and ended up eating McDonalds (gross). I had one sausage burrito and a hashbrown and honestly expected to be starving within a couple hours, which is how I normally feel after eating fast/junk food. Instead, I wasn’t hungry until about 45 minutes ago! I guess if I ever have to eat fast food for breakfast again I’ll keep this option in mind.

After a quick nap I headed off to the grocery store to get supplies for making my very own salad bar. I did all of the prep work this evening so that I can start eating salads tomorrow. I got all of my favorite toppings, plus one I’ve never tried before: red onion, broccoli, green bell pepper, banana peppers, hard boiled eggs [not pictured], shredded carrots, mushrooms, and grape tomatoes (I’ve never had one before! I know, I’m weird). I’m probably way too excited about making a salad tomorrow for lunch, but I just can’t help it!

No running today, since it’s my rest day before my long run tomorrow (4 miles, never done 4 miles straight before!). I feel kinda weird not exercising though, so I might do a bit of weightlifting or cross training at the gym tonight, just to burn off some extra energy!

What are your favorite salad toppings?

Do you cross train on your rest days or take a complete day off from working out?

– I just play it by ear. Some days I don’t do a single ounce of physical activity (other than walking to the kitchen lol). If I want to work out on a rest day, then I just hit up the elliptical or stationary bike to burn off some energy!

Why, hello there!

Hmmm…first posts are kinda awkward, dontcha think? Here are a few quick facts to get us going, kinda like speed dating 🙂

1. My name is Carolynn

2. I’m a 21 year old, female college student

3. I LOVE TO EAT FOOD

4. I just found out that I love running in January of this year

5. This blog is named after me: the running novice!

6. I love giraffes and taking pictures with strangers

Anywho, why don’t we just go ahead and dive on into my day. If you want more info about me, check out my about me section and/or leave me a comment 🙂

Today I had a 30 minute run scheduled with a 5 minute fast finish. I actually really dislike timed runs compared to mile runs. I’m not really sure why I hate them, but thank goodness for mapmyrun’s app for having verbal cues that tell me how far I’ve gone every 5 minutes or I would never be able to look away from my iPhone screen! I ended up going 2.96 miles.

I’m going to Target later today to buy a foam roller! I’m getting a cheap one since I’ve never had one before but eventually I would love to own this one. I mean, my birthday is only a couple weeks away…might be a nice present, don’t you think? (HINT HINT!!!!) I’m subtle. I’m also going to pick up some more running socks because I fell in love with my last pack of them! SO comfy and they don’t fall down into my shoes! I’ve never had a pair do that before!

Do you foam roll? What kind do you use? (links please!)

Do you like timed runs or mile runs better?

— I definitely prefer mile runs…maybe just because the faster I run, the sooner the run is over whereas in a timed run, it doesn’t matter how slow or fast you run!
